Emergency Service Call: Standing Water & OE Error
We received an urgent service call from a homeowner in Fort Lauderdale whose LG front-load washing machine stopped mid-cycle. The machine was holding a full drum of soapy water and displaying the OE error code. On LG washers, an OE error indicates a drain fault—meaning the control board detected that water was not evacuating from the drum within the allowable timeframe.
Initial Assessment & Spatial Challenge
When our technician arrived at the Fort Lauderdale property, the setup presented a common logistical obstacle: a heavy dryer was stacked directly on top of the washer inside a narrow laundry closet. In many cases, technicians insist on fully unstacking the appliances to access lower internal components, which adds labor, time, and additional cost for the customer.
Diagnostic Steps & Component Verification
Manual Water Drainage
Before testing electrical components, we used the emergency drain hose beside the lower filter panel to safely drain the trapped standing water into a drain pan without spilling onto the customer's floor.
Filter & Line Inspection
We inspected the debris filter and external drain hose for physical blockages or small foreign objects like coins or socks. The passage was clear, ruling out a simple clog.
Drain Pump Voltage & Motor Test
Using a digital multimeter, we verified that the main board was supplying proper 120V power to the pump terminals during the drain test mode. The pump motor hummed but failed to spin, confirming internal mechanical binding and motor winding failure.
OEM Pump Replacement Process
With the fault confirmed, we accessed the drain assembly housing from the front lower panel. We disconnected the wiring harness, unfastened the hose retention clamps, and removed the failed drain pump. A brand-new factory OEM LG drain pump was installed in its place, ensuring exact fitment and original factory operational specs.
Testing and Quality Verification
Once the replacement pump was secured, we ran a dedicated test cycle to monitor fill, agitation, and drain performance. The new pump cleared the entire drum in under 45 seconds, operating quietly without leaks or fault codes. The laundry room was left clean, dry, and fully operational.
